Chip Reid of CBS News and Helen Thomas took on Robert Gibbs yesterday during the daily press briefing on the ‘tightly controlled’ town meeting President Obama is planning on health care. At least two members of the press realize that the White House is controlling the press. Thomas says ‘I’m amazed, I’m amazed at you people who call for openness and transparency and you control . . . it’s shocking, it’s really shocking. . . it’s a pattern of controlling the press.’

Control the Media Like Obama
(CNSNews.com) – Following a testy exchange during Wednesday’s briefing with White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, veteran White House correspondent Helen Thomas told CNSNews.com that not even Richard Nixon tried to control the press the way President Obama is trying to control the press
‘Nixon didn’t try to do that,’ Thomas said. ‘They couldn’t control (the media). They didn’t try
‘What the hell do they think we are, puppets?’ Thomas said. ‘They’re supposed to stay out of our business. They are our public servants. We pay them.’
Way to go Helen! Keep it up because America is counting on people like you to do the right thing!
Thomas said she was especially concerned about the arrangement between the Obama Administration and a writer from the liberal Huffington Post Web site. The writer was invited by the White House to President Obama’s press conference last week on the understanding that he would ask Obama a question about Iran from among questions that had been sent to him by people in Iran.
‘When you call the reporter the night before you know damn well what they are going to ask to control you,’ Thomas said.
‘I’m not saying there has never been managed news before, but this is carried to fare-thee-well-for the town halls, for the press conferences,’ she said. ‘It’s blatant. They don’t give a damn if you know it or not. They ought to be hanging their heads in shame.’
During today’s briefing, Thomas interrupted a back-and-forth between Gibbs and Chip Reid, the White House correspondent for CBS News, when Reid was questioning Gibbs about who was going to decide what questions would be asked of President Obama in a townhall meeting that was scheduled to take place in Annandale, Va., today.
One thing we all know in the past year at the very least is how the media has not been doing their job. They have been more like cheerleaders and very liberal. Not interested in delivering non-biased news to the public. A watchdog is you will.
No the media have not been reporting the story. They have not been considering all sides to a story, or deciphering what was really told to Americans. What they have been doing is taking their orders of what they will print and not challenging this regime in Congress and the Whitehouse.
This government has spent so much money and have not said how they were going to pay for it. There has been no outcry from the media wanting to know the who, what, where, why and how’s of the story. They treated Obama like a rock star. He is not a rock star, he isn’t even someone that should be regarded as one, he has been voted in through questionable meaure into the most powerful office in the world.
He is throwing American’s rights away, he is destroying American’s abilities to grow and prosper. Companies are moving out of this country right now and do you hear anything about that. No you do not. I have not heard anything. I do know one large insurance company right now moving their business to the Phillipines, India and Northern Ireland and nothing is said. The only thing left here will be claims. I still haven’t figured out what they are going to do with the Agents who sell their wares, because the manner in which they are operating it appears that they are working to get rid of all of them to save paying the commission to them and keeping it in their till. Last year this company had a severe loss in the life operations, which attributed to the stock market and mortgage meltdown. Since that time they have been shifting costs to the agents where they used to take care of marketing items at no to little cost, supplied the computer systems the agents used because they were a captive company and the only thing those agents were allowed to sell per their contract was this companies products. By December of this past year, all costs have been shifted to the Agent with no change to offset costs to the commission structure. By December you could call the 800 number for this company, you began to hear foreign voices with some being clearly understood and other not.
Today, the Southern California call center closed. The division was shipped to the Phillipines and those people that worked there, laid off with no chance at coming back. Other divisions have closed and you hear nothing about that, those jobs again have been sent over seas. The tax structures in those 3 countries are so much lower than what the U.S. is, and who knows yet what it will be with all the mandates that this regime is trying to push through and onto business, and every working American that still has a job. Did the media report that? How about Microsoft, are they moving some of their operations out of the U.S. ? I haven’t heard, have you? They threatened it.
June’s unemployment is now higher at 9.6%!
Are they doing their job or are they going to keep their head in the sand? Is this what the new America change is going to be? The people stifled, jobless, no homes, no chance of money coming into to support our families, no health insurance, no food, no cars, no gas… the list goes on and on. Do you hear anything about that? Nope. Not a thing.
They wonder why newspapers are losing readership, or the news channels are losing money or viewership. They are not doing their job. They are not reporting the news, and many times they are copying what someone else writes and puts in in their news with a little byline and present it the people to be their reporting.
I am sick of being treated like I am that stupid. I am sick of one sided journalism. I am sick of the media’s opinion of what should be going on and what they thought the story is. You can listen to one news channel with the very same story and they throw a slant on it that makes it sound like the most wonderful thing you can possibly have heard. Then, listen to another one and it is the opposite slant. That sir, is not reporting the news. That is not news, that is commentary. If I wanted your opinion I would ask for it, but see most of us didn’t ask for it but that is what we get. If you want to report the news, then do it. REPORT IT! Look at all sides and present both sides or remain neutral on the subject and allow the people who read or listen to your news decide for themselves. It is that simple. One channel does that better than the rest. But they could do better but I have a chance of finding out what is really going on just like the rest of us. We deserve that. Don’t you?
